This is a water proof, bark tanned baby blanket made of possum skins & sewn with linen, making it 100% natural. Being bark tanned, it’s strong, water proof, wind proof & just as soft as alum tanned skins. This blanket will last for a very, very long time. Once purchased, the owner upon request may have more juvenile skins added to this blanket at $40 per skin. So another row of 3 skins would be $120, another 2 rows top & bottom would be $240 etc.
If you are wanting skins added to blanket as your baby/child grows, you may send it back to me & get more skins added to it. It would need to be left un-lined though. However, I can line it upon request if cost of material is covered. Thanks, the support is much appreciated.
A beautifully softened, Red Deer hide. Dressed with a fat solution of lecithin/olive oil, then smoked with Kaori punk wood from a local forest. There are a few spots down at the rump which are stiff as you can see in the photos, therefore the price is reduced a bit as it is not an A grade buckskin. However, it is extremely soft & has a good thickness to it. It’s very plush to touch, would be great for garments, bead work, bags or other miscellaneous craft items.

Preserving the skin salting, drying or freezing.
fleshing, how to remove all flesh & fat from the skin.
washing.
pickling, how to make it, how to check pH & maintain the pH, why to pickle.
bark liquor, bark liquor management, barks you can use, how to prepare it & tanning the skin.
skudding, removing membrane from the skin easily.
Drying the skin to preserve it until ready for the softening stage.
Dressing with fats. What fats you can use, why to use certain fats over others etc.
Softening. Different techniques I use to get really high quality plush skins.
Sanding. How to sand the skin in a way where you get a very professional looking end product.
